Course Information

Description:
A study of the nature, method, and scope of economic analysis, economic scarcity, resources, specialization and division of labor, supply and demand, production and costs, customer behavior and utility maximization, technology, product and resource market structures, and distribution of income.

Learning Outcomes (Course Objectives):
Course Objectives:

    1. To provide an understanding of economics which is essential to comprehend and have a view on today's political problems, and to be able to make our individual buying, employment, and financial decisions.
    2. To develop a lasting interest in our economic system.
    3. To provide a base for those who are enrolled in an economic degree.

Homework (Workload):
An assignment is due every week. Assignments consist of reading textbook, going through chapter objectives, concept illustrations, interactive graphs, and other course material. A discussion question and/or questions from textbook are assigned and due every week for every chapter. Discussion questions are posted in the discussion area and students must reply to at least one other student's post in order to create interaction and learning. Answers to textbook questions are emailed to me.

Exams:
3 - 50 point multiple choice exams are given throughout the semester. These exams must be taken independently and will last no more than 1 hour. Students will have one full week to take the exam. I only allow one submission. Sometimes the final test will consist of a short answer format.

Technology Required:  You must have access to a computer with Netscape 4.0 (or higher) or Internet Explorer 5.0 (or higher). No additional Internet plug-ins are required for this course. Please allow our browser checking website to tell you what your computer currently provides for you. Microsoft Office 2000, 2003, including Word and PowerPoint. IBM or compatible, or Macintosh computer with CD-ROM; Internet access - Netscape or Explorer (later versions of either); QuickTime or Real Time Player for Wave files.
