Description:
Transcription of surgical dictation; e.g., chart notes, operative reports, consultations, etc.

AH 220

Learning Outcomes (Course Objectives):
Course Goals:
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently of others.
- Demonstrate the proper use of reference materials.
- Transcribe letters, consultations, chart notes, history and physical reports, discharge summaries, operative reports, diagnostic studies, radiology reports, and pathology reports dictated by various physicians.
- Edit the transcript to correct obvious grammatical and punctuation errors.
- Identify obvious medical inconsistencies.
- Produce a final neat, error-free transcript.
- Increase transcription speed and productivity throughout the course.
Learning Outcomes:
This course demonstrates the student's general education goals by:
- Improving listening skills;
- Improving computer skills;
- Increasing the awareness for lifelong learning;
- Improving the ability to think out various medical situations and put them in proper order;
- Learning to take responsibility for one's own work habits and actions, and their consequences

Homework (Workload):
Students will spend a minimum of three hours per day doing transcription assignments. Students must complete this course with 83% or higher accuracy.
