Description:
Survey of early American History from the pre-colonial period through the Civil War. It will include old world background, transformations of British institutions into American institutions, revolution and the establishment of the Union with its temporary breakup during the Civil War.

Learning Outcomes (Course Objectives):
This course is designed to give the student an understanding of early American History and how people and events shaped our society. This includes colonization, the revolution, the birth of a new nation, the constitutional challenges facing it, westward expansion, and the conflict that divided our nation .

Topics and the order in which they will be covered in class will directly coincide with the order of chapters in the textbook.
