ENGL 110 College Composition I

Description:
Offers guided practice in college level writing and in critical reading. Emphasizes traditional rhetorical strategies of description, narration, and summary as well as more demanding analytical writing including; classification and division, comparison and contrast, process and procedure, and definition.

None

Learning Outcomes (Course Objectives):

  • Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have shown the ability to do the following:
  • Plan, write, and revise multi-paragraph compositions.
  • Demonstrate competence in generating and exploring ideas.
  • Write for a variety of purposes.
  • Develop a thesis by exploring a variety of organizational strategies.
  • Show critical/logical thinking and reading skills such as evaluation, synthesis, and criticism.
  • Use accurate grammar, mechanics, and spelling.
  • Choose diction and usage appropriate to specific audiences.

--An unacceptable final or a final that doesn’t get submitted on time drops the overall grade one letter grade. An A cannot be achieved without an acceptable final.

Exams:
Final exam is a single question, essay-type exam. It is e-mailed upon completion of the student-chosen number of essays. It is graded using the same format as the essays and must be completed within 24 hours of its receipt.
(No exams given or accepted after the first day of exam week.)
