THE 13 STEPS TO RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID
- Apply for admission at the college of your choice.
- Complete your taxes early and keep a copy.
- File the FAFSA
(Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as taxes are completed. Priority date of
March 15.
- Within 2-6 weeks you will receive a Student Aid Report either through
regular mail or email. The timing depends on if you filed by mail or
electronically.
- If you are selected
for federal verification, you will be sent a request
from the college to submit copies of your tax returns,W-2s, and complete
a verification
form.
- If you are a transfer
student, you must submit academic transcripts from previous colleges attended
to the
admissions office.
- In April or May you will receive an award notice from the college.
- You must then complete,
sign and return the award notice indicating whether you would like to borrow
a student loan, and which lender you would
like to service the loan or you may accept/deny any awarded aid online
through your CampusConnection portal using your ID and password.
- In early August you
will be receiving a promissory note from your lender, if you chose to borrow.
This note must be completed
and returned
to the
lender
as soon as possible.
- Classes begin.
- During the first week of
classes you must complete entrance
counseling, if you have not previously
borrowed a Stafford or Perkins Loan.
- Your financial aid will
automatically credit your account, and an excess aid check will be processed
for the remaining balance.
- You may pick up your excess
aid or pay any additional fees on Fee Payment and Disbursal day. You may
also receive your excess
aid
by direct deposit if you
have completed the necessary forms prior to disbursal.
